Theresa Plut Performs to Rousing Applause at the Slovenian Opera Evening

Theresa Plut wowed audience with her beautiful and powerful soprano voice at the Slovenian opera evening last Friday. She has a great talent to make you feel and understand her expression through her melodic and powerful voice.
The University of British Columbia (UBC) School of Music presented the concert at the Roy Barnett Recital Hall.
Distinguished pianist and UBC professor Terence Dawson accompanied her on piano.
Dawson is one of Vancouver’s most respected musicians known for his “trademark elegance and technical flair”, according to the Georgia Strait.
Margaret Rudolf Honorary Consul for Slovenia in Vancouver delivered her opening remarks and extended a warm welcome to the audience. She thanked Theresa Plut and Terence Dawson for putting the wonderful concert together.
“The opera evening was a wonderful opportunity for the audience to experience Slovenia through our rich musical heritage. We are more than sausages and polka”, says Rudolf.
Origin of Opera
Opera originated in Italy at the end of the 16th century or possibly earlier. It’s a western classical music tradition. A form of music and theatre delivered through a script or dialog with the help of music.
Soprano is the highest female singing voice by vocal range. The range extends from middle C to the C two octaves above it.
Classical opera collections in the evening program included those from Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler and Hugo Wolf. Featured are also a selection of folk songs by Slovenian composers: Benjamin Ipavec, Anton Lajovic, Vasilij Mirkn.
Award-winning vocalist Theresa Plut is known for her amazing vocal range, coloratura and dramatic talent. Her repertoire ranges from Zerbinetta in opera to Carmina Burana in concert. She is currently assistant professor at the University of Ljubljana.
The internationally acclaimed Canadian – Slovenian soprano has performed with opera companies and orchestras in Europe, Asia and North America.
Deputy Consul General of France in Vancouver Guillaume Roy and Honorary Consul for Ivory Coast John Bell were among the invited guests.

Ljubljana’s Opera House located in Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital is home to the national opera and ballet company, the Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet.
It’s a must-visit place on any Slovenia itinerary. Built in 1892, the neo- Renaissance architecture was designed by Czech architects Jan Vladimír Hráský and Anton Hruby . It represents the heart of Slovenian culture.
